Preschool Matters 3 Things You Should Know

Middle school

If you think it doesn’t matter whether your child attends preschool or not, think again. Getting an early start on their education can help them lay the groundwork for middle school, high school, and beyond, and more. Here are just a few things you may not know about preschool.

Preschool promotes emotional and social development. – Now, you don’t want your children growing up too fast on you, but you do have to admit that developing socially and emotionally is a good thing. This is just what preschool can help your child with. As they spend their days around their peers and teachers, they’ll be able to build trusting relationships with adults and nurture relationships with other kids. The sooner they learn to do that, the more experience they’ll be able to have when they get out into more advanced schooling.

It’s a structured environment. – Preschool may not seem all that structured, but believe it or not, it is, and that’s a good thing. Structure helps kids learn to make friends and play with others. It doesn’t mean that there are a ton of rules that they can get in trouble for. Rather, the structure is there to encourage socialization with a minimization of conflict.

It teaches them to make decisions. – Preschool can help children learn to be decisive. Every day, kids are given a choice of activities. Those indecisive kids who don’t really know what they want to do are encouraged to join in and participate in something that interests her or him. Best of all, if children are having a hard time with activities, there are teachers who can guide them and help them make friends.

Although sending your child to preschool does not mean that they’re guaranteed to get into their private school’s honors program, it does help them begin laying an educational foundation from which they can learn more easily.
